The future is coming

January 4, 2007 By Dan Thornton

It’s just a few days to my new Broadband connection and I’m finding it increasingly difficult to be patient. It was nice not to have the internet at home for about a day, before I started withdrawal symptoms for Xbox Live and being able to find subjects from my living room.

In internet news not directly concerning myself, a Brazilian Court has ruled that Youtube must close until a video is completely removed. I’m thinking that U.S. based ownership will keep Youtube rolling merrily along until this case is resolved. Although damage payments etc might start a string of similar cases throughout the world.

Meanwhile British Telecom is claiming the 10 millionth broadband connection for UK customers. It’s ahead of schedule, but pretty unsurprising. I’d be more shocked if the majority of people could get better than a 512 or 1Mb connection. Currently you really need to either live in a big city, or in your local phone exchange, to get a decent speed.

Sadly I’m not included in the Best Blog Fights of 2006, as reported by Wired, nor did I receive a free Acer Ferarri laptop, as many bloggers have done .

But I do intend to keep blogging as long as I have the ability to do so, and in more frequency, once I can post without the watching eyes of my employers. And with so many people predicting blogging will peak in 2007 (Along with the death of Myspace, Youtube, and the earth itself), I can only get more popular. Which may go some way to justifying the three different site measurement tools I’m using to reinforce the fact I have a select and niche audience.
