An ex-boss of mine has just given me a bit of a scoop, as I’m able to reveal that Virgin Radio is about to be renamed Absolute Radio!
And if you want some verification, www.absoluteradio.com happens to already be redirecting to the current Virgin Radio site. The domain is also registered to one of the buyers, UK radio and consultancy Absolute Radio, who are the new owners along with Times of India subsidiary TIML.
The new station aims to focus on ‘real’ music – with guitars ‘n’ stuff….the tagline will be ‘Discover Real Music’.
So goodbye Virgin Radio and hello Absolute Radio. And as much as I tend to deride much of traditional media, from what I’ve heard it sounds like a promising change. I’m certainly going to be paying it close attention
