Twitter starts filtering links to malware

August 3, 2009 By Dan Thornton

As more and more people use Twitter, so the number of spam/porn messages has increased – partly due to users succumbing to the numbers game and blindly following and re-tweeting anything they see.

So it’s a good move for Twitter to start blocking malware, as spotted by the F-Secure blog earlier today – making the service a little safer for the less-savvy.

It seems that the filtering itself comes via Bit.ly, checking against spam filters SURBL and Google Safe Browsing, and then adding a warning, as shown in the screen below from F-Secure (Obviously I don’t know any dodgy sites!):

good news am up to date ,i read a lot of posts including the original one .Regarding this one , what i think is necesary to say is that is has a minus part because google searches for example in stopbadware.org that has a list of link s that have been raported as potential notsure and listed as ok or not but for example if you make a bad site now and trick 100 users –harm done. This is why i recommend a good antivirus on hand that can detect paterns and block malware to help prevent even 0 day attacks 🙂 ex Bitdefender this i m using so i used it to see how it responded to threatsIn any case it s a plus for twitter protection against malware atacks Hurai and tally ho chep it up twitter for all the milions of users 😉
